THE SALTWATER COLLECTIVE
Hello Bikini Fashionistas, we are well into the month of July and what better way to celebrate with more swimwear? The Saltwater Collective is a refreshing brand that caters to all shapes and sizes, offering elevated basics from sizes XS to XL.
When I received the press release for this collection, I was stunned by the minimalist yet memorable swimsuits on their website. First off, their color palette is so soothing and complements all skin tones. Additionally, all items are interchangeable and can easily be mixed n' matched, offering the utmost versatility to your bikini wardrobe.
I had the chance to interview the designer & owner of The Saltwater Collective, Camilla James West and got the full scoop on her latest venture. Camilla enjoys providing swimwear that flatters all female figures, in this collection, she focuses on simple basics with complimentary references of the 80’s and 90’s era, such as waist ties or high cut bikini bottoms.
Since this was her first full collection, Camilla wanted to start with classic colors that felt universally flattering, but still on trend. Blues are beautiful base colors for swimwear, of course alluding to the beauty of the ocean. Most importantly, black and white are perfect basics for every swimsuit lover.
The Saltwater Collective sets themselves apart as a brand by making the use of Eco-friendly fabric as their top priority. The designer only uses Econyl for swimsuit production, this yarn is made out of abandoned fishing nets and plastic scraps.
As Camilla stated in our interview, the fashion industry, especially fast fashion, continues to come at a huge cost to our environment. Consumers are slowly becoming more aware of many of the problems associated with our fashion industry, but I think it is essential for brands like Saltwater (no matter how big or small) to use our voice to educate consumers and set new standards for the industry.
Fashion should not be costing us our planet, and with the advent of technology and innovation in the industry there is no reason why we shouldn’t be using fabrics that are regenerated, recycled and helping slow down these negative impacts.
The Saltwater Collective's website is easy to navigate and not overwhelming which makes it so fun to browse. I have to say my favorite pieces are the Alice Top and Charlotte bottoms in the cerulean blue color. Both items tie at the front which I absolutely love, paired together they give off a vintage vibe yet the set still remains contemporary as the cerulean blue sets the tone.
For those who love, one-piece swimsuits, the "Christina" is available in 4 different colors and it has a crossed strap detail at the back which shows off the back nicely.
Before checking out, add the classic crew to your cart. I absolutely love it in white, I think it will be perfect for my upcoming trip to Cape Cod. What do you think?
